Insomnia

insomnia

I haven’t known sleep in years.
She eludes me.
Taunts me.
Tells me over and over again,
That I will never catch her.
She’s right.

Laying here in the dark,
Hoping to do well without her,
I wrestle wakefulness.
I am out raced by my thoughts.
I tally the ticking down of time.

Sleep,
It’s 2 a.m.
Please.
Come to bed with me.
It’s lonely here,
And I just want to forget
That I ever knew this day.

About Z.

Poetic pipe and cigar enthusiast rifling through the haunted memories of a not so distant past while openly wrestling with faith and God. A rambling writer with the misguided notion that he has something to say. His only redeeming qualities are his wife and children.
