That Time You Left

We could feel the tempo
Slow
To match the rhythm of pirouettes
Gracefully falling
From the mouth
Of heaven’s sweet calling

I
Defy God
Refuse to go on
Refuse to let go
Of the beautiful broken things
Trying to set themselves free
From the measure of the pulse that sings
Sweetly

See here on this sea
We are waiting
For you to come back
With breath
For you to come away
From death
For time to catch up
With the racing of our thoughts

But time slows
To a roll
Pausing motion between the tick and tock
Please love
Come back to us
Beautiful heart
Come back to us

But you left us
To wonder
How you felt
Who you are
Didn’t you know
We stood ready
To hold you in our broken arms

About Z.

Poetic pipe and cigar enthusiast rifling through the haunted memories of a not so distant past while openly wrestling with faith and God. A rambling writer with the misguided notion that he has something to say. His only redeeming qualities are his wife and children.
